The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum stands as a living memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and a powerful voice against antisemitism, hatred, and genocide. As a nonpartisan federal educational institution established by an Act of Congress in 1980, the Museum holds a permanent place on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Its mission and global reach are sustained through federal support and the generosity of donors committed to education, remembrance, and human dignity.

Through its exhibitions, research, and educational initiatives, the Museum reaches millions of people each year, demonstrating the enduring relevance of the Holocaust and the dangers of unchecked hatred. Since opening to the public in 1993, it has welcomed approximately 50 million visitors, including world leaders, educators, and more than 11 million school-age students.

The Museum’s Holocaust Encyclopedia, recognized as the world’s leading online resource on the subject, is available in 20 languages and serves audiences across the globe. Its educational programs extend to all 50 U.S. states, and its digital platforms engage millions worldwide. As the nation’s official Holocaust memorial, the Museum seeks to ensure that the victims are remembered, survivors are honored, and the historical truth of the Holocaust is preserved and shared for future generations.
