A remarkable example of this is found at **thetjthompsons.com**, a digital home for the privately held **Thompson Family Collection**. Maintained as a public resource for education and historical research, the site offers a window into American life, military history, and academia primarily spanning the first half of the twentieth century. ### Kodachrome photographer The collection is particularly rich in mid-century military history. Among its standout features is a striking series of original Kodachrome slides documenting West Point between 1943 and 1945, captured by **Captain Theos Jardin Thompson** of the Department of Physics. Paired with personal letters and papers detailing an officer's training, from the Enlisted Reserve to Officer Candidate School at Camp Hood and the Infantry School at Fort Benning, these materials offer a vivid, authentic look at the military experience on the home front and during the war years. ### Student affairs Beyond the military archives, the website delves into academic leadership and regional social history. It houses the office files of **T. J. Thompson**, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Nebraska from 1927 to 1948, capturing fascinating crossroads of athletics, student draft deferments, and wartime campus life. Other exhibits broaden the scope to everyday American experiences, featuring poignant correspondence from a Dakota farm town struggling through the drought of the early 1930s, rare documentation following the devastating 1926 Moore Haven hurricane, and turn-of-the-century student life at Houghton Seminary. ### John Rutherford Thompson An Officer’s Training highlights the military journey of [**John Rutherford Thompson**](https://www.normandy1944.info/stories/john-rutherford-thompson) between **1942** and **1944** through the letters, papers, and photographs he kept.
