I just finished reading Master Sergeant Howard Andrew Ellis' story about the 877th Signal Service Company. I was also attached to the 877th at Membury, England after spending 3 & 1/2 years in Iceland.

I am Staff Sargeant Harry Wiliam Goldberg. I was a Message Center Chief and things were pretty messed up in the 877th. I applied to Cryptography School in Oxford England to learn the RAF Codes. Upon returning to the 877th, I volunteered for a combat communication team and traveled all over southern England with Lt. Hiene and several other buddies, operating out of Ascot England. Eventually, we were attached to the 6th Engineers Special Brigade for the Invasion at Omaha Beach. I rejoined the 877th at Chateau Dun, France.

The day Paris was taken, my orders came in to return to the states. Capt. Wills, C.O. of the 877th, gave me a choice to go to Paris with the Company or go home. What did I choose? HAHA My wife and I now live with my son and daughter-in-law in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Anyone who served in the 877th can feel free to e-mail me..
