My grandfather was a combat medic on Omaha Beach. He inspired me to serve and pinned on my Warrant Officer bars 2 years ago. I can see why this generation is referred to as the "Greatest Generation." HOOAH.

My 2 sons and I just spent 4 days in Normandy and 3 days in Bastogne with private tour guides. Somehow being there brought back 66 years of history. The sense of sacrifice and bravery is incredible. It became alive and personal. It now became the heroics of individuals and to stand where they gave their lives was more than humbling. The books and movies can only take you so far. You need to stand on the beaches and foxholes and reflect. It is difficult to share this experience with anyone who has not been there, in fact impossible. We have 93,238 U.S. troops buried in Europe. I hope the youth of America are taught about this world changing episode in schools today. Let them never forget the price of freedom.

Bruce Lorenz

Hello...
Thanks so much for this web site. My father, Gerry Lorenz, served in the AAF signal corps in Europe. He has been gone since 1984. He shared stories of good, good people and some stories of great loss. We owe his generation a great debt. God bless us all.

Great site and I have been to Normandy many times. My granddad was in the service of defending the Swiss border in case the Germaans would have attacked. Glad he did not see the horror of war. Thanks for all. I also have a nice website with photos of my tours.
