American troops in Torquay 1944

Hello,
In 1944, prior to Operation Overload, my mother remembers that 2 American soldiers were billetted in her home in Ellacombe, Torquay, Devon. She said they were very polite and kind to her and her parents, bringing much enjoyed chocolate and other goodies. Then suddenly they departed, she later discovered for the Normandy landings.
Talking to my mother, she wondered what happened to them. Did they survive the landings and the war. Unfortunately she cannot remember their names. But is there anywhere I could look to see where the American troops were billetted?
So far I have found that members of the 618th Ordnance Ammunition Company, 6th Amphibious Engineers, 257th Ordnance MM Company, 31st Chemical Corps (part of the 6th Engineer Special Brigade), 3204th Quartermaster Service Company were billeted in private homes in Torquay
Any help or ideas would be most appreciated.

My dad and another American doctor boarded in the private home of a Torquay doctor and his wife in 1944. They were members of the 60th Medical Battalion and were with the 6th Engineers Special Brigade that landed on Omaha Beach. My dad was wounded and later died.
