Welcome to the D-Day, Normandy and Beyond Veterans Funding Page

Funding

In my work with this website which I have been running for about 6 years now, I have had the privilege to meet and talk to quite a few veterans and strong friendships grew from that. What struck me was the determination, motivation and the need to visit the cemeteries and battlefields of more than 60 years ago. This idea was born out of the deepest respect for the veterans of WWII.

Alas quite a few veterans simply cannot afford these expensive trips. The price of flight tickets, hotels and other journey related costs have soared these last years. D-Day, Normandy and Beyond wants to try and help these veteran with small donations to their expensive trips. With your help we can give these men and women a small token of our gratitude for our freedom. Help today any donation is more than welcome.

Veteran Phil Hooper (story #162) speaks about this project.

Frank, I believe you will find that at least 50% of the men and women who were in Europe during WWII would give anything to return with their spouse and relive as I did, the time and experiences that I did a few years ago. Many, such as my self do not and will not tell of there experiences during the war. But when they return to the fox holes, the towns and crossroads they will take on an entirely new feeling. It is a feeling of their old comrades they lost over there. Memories of experiences that return as they move around the battlegrounds. This I know. Many of these experiences returned to me and the feelings were deep. I had wet eyes many times in the three weeks I spent in my travels.

When they visit the cemetery's, it is an experience they will never forget, I haven't. As I walked between the rows of crosses. And when they find a name they know they will stop very abruptly, stand for a moment and the tears will begin to flow. And when the see how the cemetery's are maintained they will be proud, very proud of the impression they made on the people of the various countries who maintain these grounds. They will see the most beautiful park  they have ever seen. A park in which it appears as though the grass was cut with shears. The buildings are spotless. All of the ex G.I.'s should be able to see this.

What you are doing Frank is a great thing. I think every man or woman who served should be able some how, to return the Europe with their spouse and see how it has changed. Talk with the people and hear how they are appreciated. I found many, many people when I was there and they found out that I had fought there during WWII , they wanted to shake my hand. They wanted to say thanks in any way they could. And it seem that you are trying to make it possible for past servicemen to return to Europe and re-experience the past. Frank , keep up the great work you are doing. There are so many people who will benefit.

Why should we help? What veterans will be eligible? Who will select them?

Funding

The veterans of World War II deserve our respect, our gratitude and above all our help. For it is these men and women who ensured our freedom and the lives we are able to live today. Give something back and give this Greatest Generation the opportunity to visit their battlfields once more. To see where their friends still lie in the memory of more then 60 years ago. A lot of these veterans simply cannot afford the expensive trip fares. That is what this project is for.

Okay so will be eligible?
On that question I have had quite a few sleepless nights. So in order not to forget anyone or make descions on who will be eligible and who is not...I have done the following. Any veteran who is planning a trip to their battlefield can contact me. Details will be handed out to them and there will be a fair and square sharing of the funds present at that time!

Veteran Arthur William (Bill) Jasper's (story #189) speaks about this project.
Frank...I will simply say that it is a great experience to visit the WWII battlefields where one served.  It adds closure to an experience of more then 60 years ago.

Can companies help with this project too?

Funding

Yes of course, in fact I will need these companies (Airlines, Buscompanies, Hotels etc) to donate too. That can be an Airline Company donating one seat a month? Good idea! Also think of the great publicity for your company. But even better then that...give this Greatest Generation a well deserved trip to the place where so many of their good friends still are burried in the soil of their memories.

What do you get in return?
1) A great feeling that even the smalles donation will be donated to the veterans
2) You will be kept up to date of when your donation will be handed out
3) Plus a list of supporting companies will be featured on this website.

I was wounded in Bastone as four Germans tank came over the hill in front of us we lost over half of our Company we had a very bad Christmas.
