After that first run into Holland the weather stayed socked in until the 23rd of December, 1944, five days after the initial drop. When take off became possible at 1253, 96 panes and as many gliders, marshaled and ready to go since five days earlier, went into the air once more for the final flight into the Nijmegen area. We were split into two serials, each having 48 power planes and 48 gliders, plus the floor bundles to be kicked out the door. We were all to go the Southern route because of the heavy build up along the Northern route.
